Graphic design can be thought of as a built-in elective in the study of Architecture. Early on in Architecture school, I was almost involuntarily nudged towards learning graphic programs, such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Working in a digital age as students putting presentations together, it became commonplace for us to create digital models and construct photo-comps of our theoretically designed buildings in a real location setting. As I progressed through Architecture school, and started taking the requisite courses on digital design and presentations. The subject of graphic design became more integral into my studio workflow as well as the other courses, I took. After graduating from Architecture school in 2010, at the height of the great recession, I decided to go back to school to obtain a certificate in Graphic Design to more formally affirm the Graphic Design side of my education. Working in film and television has allowed me to put all that I’ve learned in my academic life to use, not just producing graphics myself, but also coming up with the concepts and collaborating with the graphic designers who work in my department to produce signage and other graphics for film production.
