Design As a Catalyst For Community Development

Based on the process of Catalysis, the design intent sought to create and kindle interaction between the present, the past, and the future, through the integration of a relevant programmatic construct based on the needs of the surrounding communities. The idea of the circle of influence was the conceptual manner in which the different institutions such as the church, courthouse, and schools influence the original urban environment. Those initial institutional drivers of the development of this small rural town can be seen on the hill. The hill is the highest point in the town and represents the focal point of the town and surrounding communities. The series of sketches were conceptual ideas about public spaces and creating spaces through the urban fabric of this small town in Jamaica. As the project progressed the concepts were synthesized into a 3-D model. From which; Floor plans, Sections, Elevations, Structural methodology, and Renderings were extrapolated..
